The future of the arts in Akron starts with the choices we make today

Dancers perform at the Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival at the Akron Art Museum

"Artists and organizations like ArtsNow are stretching every dollar to deliver programs that make our community stronger, safer, and more vibrant.

The next 100 years can – and should – be defined by a city that fully embraces arts and culture as a key driver of economic vitality and community health. When the arts are strong, Akron is stronger."

Thank you to the Akron Beacon Journal for letting us share what the arts means in our community now and for the future.

Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. This electrifying one-person, outdoor theatre performance, featuring Josy Jones, follows a woman as she interrogates her close and intimate friend, a tree. She’s got questions. She tries to reconnect with nature–the nature of the world and the nature of herself. She tries to fathom the forces that carry us–love, desire, evolution, technology, and the unseen rules that we bump up against every day.
